Podcast myths proven wrong: part 2

Podcasts are an ever-growing content medium, with UK adults ‘listen for c.7 hours per person’ per week. Launching a podcast is a great way to build a publishing platform that feeds all your business’ social media content needs, educates, informs & inspires your audience & creates an engaged community.

However, there are several myths surrounding podcast production that we wanted to dispel.

Read on for more myth-busting.

1. You don’t need a sponsor to get started

You only need to budget around £40 per month for all the software you need to maintain a podcast, so you don’t need to secure a sponsor to launch. It’s often better not to work with a sponsor right at the start so that you maintain full control over the concept & editorial direction. Plus without a proven track record & media kit you may waste time going after one.

2. You don’t need a personal brand

Everyone has to start somewhere & it’s not vital to have an established personal brand before you launch. By regularly sharing engaging content with your audience & marketing your podcast in the right ways, you’ll begin to build a loyal community of listeners.

3. You don’t need a popular subject matter to succeed

Niche down for success! The more niche podcast concepts often perform better than more mass appeal topics as they’re easier to find. Focusing on one particular topic could increase the speed at which your podcast listenership grows.

4. You don’t need to interview your guest before you record

Some podcast hosts choose to arrange a pre-call with guests. However, guests can share their most interesting information here rather than the recroding. Instead, draft relevant questions for the guest to prepare answers if they wish.

5. You don’t need lots of software

You only need a few key ones. Some software packages also offer free or lower-cost plans to get you started. Contact us to find out which software packages we recommend.
